The first thing to report this morning, which is quite alarming to me, is that over the past week of vomiting, Taran has lost 1lbs 12oz. I weighed him last Monday on his 6 months-versary and he was 17lbs 12oz on our digital bathroom scale. I've noticed over the course of this tummy bug that he felt lighter in my arms and his chubby face was getting to be not so chubby. I weighed him this morning to get the low down on exactly what he has lost - he was 16lbs even this morning. Woa!!! The good thing is that he is beginning to actually show signs of hunger this morning for the first time in a week - previously he was just eating to get by I think. I nursed him at 5am and at 6am he was
really cranky! Being a little gun-shy of getting puked on constantly if I nurse him any more frequently than 2 hours, I was a little slow on the uptake that he was in fact hungry. I popped the trusty boob in there and he latched on and began sucking....with no adverse consequences.
I increased his bottle amounts at daycare to 3 oz from 2.5 today to slowly up the volume so as not to overwhelm is obviously still weak and sensitive tummy. My poor baby though! At 6 months, he should have been going through a growth spurt not a tummy bug. Of course, I worry that he missed that spurt and will be set back on his growth a little.
This is a little theory of mine regarding Logan's small size. When he was between 4 and 6 months old, he had two tummy bugs and two (before we worked it out) boughts of food reaction (to sweet potatoes). I have often thought that this early sickness greatly contributed to his small size (35 inches and 27lbs at his 3 year WBV).
I was really happy to see Taran be the chubber baby that he was, growing so well....hoping that he would put on the weight better than his brother. Oh well - he has his 6 month WBV in about a week's time so I will discuss my concerns with his doctor then.
In other news, the mashed banana took quite the back seat since last Mon/Tues and Shane tried to get him to take some again yesterday - no interest at all at the moment. Not that I am all gung-ho on getting solids into him, but again from his real interest in our food and his penchant for eating, I thought Taran was going to be quite the gannit right off the bat. Still, early days, but we haven't graduated from mashed up banana thinned with expressed milk yet. Next up....Advocado!!!
My Mum arrives tonight from Scotland for a 5 week visit - her flight gets in around 9pm though so Shane has both boys for bedtime tonight - for the first time ever. This will be Taran's first time of a bottle at bedtime. I am sure they will all cope well...but I suspect I will come home to a husband that hasn't eaten even yet at 10pm!
So I never updated about our tree, did I? Well, it is still undecorated at the moment. Why, you might ask? Well, it has fallen down twice, broken our stand and is quite honestly FAR too big for the room. Last night we took it to task; duct taped the stand back together, because of course two weeks before Christmas and EVERYWHERE is sold out of live tree stands - argh! I had to put in a trash can liner inside so that we can water it. Oh, here's a top tip - when you first get your tree up and into your home, pour in a 2 litre bottle of Sprite into the stand - it will make your tree last longer. Course, our tree has been in the house for a week and a half with no water due to falling down and stand issues. So, we managed to jimmy the stand into something that would work, get the tree somewhat upright and have it tied up also so that it doesn't inconveniently fall down again either overnight, or worse, on top of someone. I guess I will begin decorating on Thursday evening though how I am going to accomplish that, I have no scooby! The thing is seriously 12 feet tall!!! I don't have a V ladder, just one that leans against a wall, so the top of the tree may not be as trimmed as it might have been.
And of course, I have to admit that the only other Christmas decoration that is up is the wreath on the front door. Pretty bad considering we went out the weekend after Thanksgiving to get the tree and I had high hopes of having all the decorations done that same weekend.
I am encouraged at how the raffle is progressing....it could be doing much better of course, but I have pretty much gotten the word out to every where and every how I can think of. If you are reading this blog, please spread the word about the raffle - we have so many children on our waiting list needing a car seat - many of them in danger either in nothing at all, or 2 years old in a booster seat already.
Speaking of which, I am of course the car seat pest at work. I spotted a picture of a cute little girl on one of our new guys' computer background so I open my dialog and bring up rear-facing etc....of course, she'd just turned 1 year old and they had turned her forward-facing. Argh! Thankfully, the guys was REALLY listening to me and that day we went out to his truck to turn the seat back around and just check all is good. Well, what do I see but an old Century over head shield seat in there with no labels! ACK! This thing probably came in the ark! I told him it was most likely expired (and of course, he had no idea car seats expired!). He agreed - it had been used for both his two older boys. So they now are using my seat that I got for Taran in the recent Britax tech deal (discontined Boulevard patterns for $150 each - I got the max 3 of them). They will be buying two new seats this weekend and I will take my Boulevard back.
One child at a time......;)
