I heart faces - orchards

This shot was taken in May earlier this year in the apple orchard of a local farm. This was my first ever paid photoshoot, but the second time I had shot this family. The little girl has the most wonderful red hair, but she is VERY attached to her hats. I say they reflect who she is just now.

This is my entry for "Love that Shot" contest.



This shot was taken at the NH Highland Games September 18th. (I have to set my camera's date and time apparently, because it thinks it was taken in January 2008 - before my youngest son was born - ha ha!)

I cropped this shot in nice and close and had to do a little clean up cloning on my yougnest son's face which was covered in chocolate and also to remove some distracting items from the background. I converted to B&W in Lightroom, added blacks and contrast and that was pretty much all the processing that was done on this one.

My heart is just breaking learning about little Sam and the many other children just like him whose future is to be committed to an institution where the likelihood is that he could die within 6 months to his first year there. Sam has down syndrome and in the area where he lives, routinely children with this condition are taken from their families and placed in orphanages. When they reach around 5 to 6 years old, these small angels are then committed to institutions where it is not possible for them to be adopted.

There is a wonderful organization called Reece's Rainbow that help raise both awareness about these children, but also raise funds for their adoption funds so that money does not stand between loving families who could welcome these children into their homes and care for them.
